Tops

The “Antwerp Zoo”, located next to the train station in Antwerp, is a zoo where you can discover quite a few animals (unfortunately not during corona / lockdown times). This zoo comes from afar, by which we mean that the zoo was in bad shape at a certain point.

They have also had a lot to endure (see history of the zoo). Little by little they are renovating everything and we have to say that they certainly succeed.

The “Mensenapenvallei” has certainly been able to appeal to us, as well as “Vriesland” and the reptile building.

Tips

There is parking in front of the door, but it is underground and paying (Koningin Astridplein).
You can absolutely use public transport, the zoo is located next to Antwerp station.
We ate in the self-service “Savanne Restaurant”, the hot food is certainly okay price / quality, but what is really great is the cold buffet here. Plenty of choice if you want to eat healthy. We also visited the “Flamingo Café”, you can enjoy it quietly on a very nice terrace and inside it is also very nice to sit.
We are pleased that several older animal shelters are being renovated. We hope for more spacious and newer animal enclosures for the animals.
Some new animal enclosures have now become play villages. We regret this because there are not many animals left outside at the moment, especially in corona times when all indoor animal enclosures are closed.
Tip in corona / lockdown times: visit “Zoo Planckendael” instead of this zoo, you have much more value for money!
